June beers

The weather often keeps us occupied and it is therefore the most chosen topic of conversation in our country. When it comes to drinking beer, it's also important because when the weather is cold and inclement, people tend to drink different types of beer than in the spring and summer. We see that the mercury is finally rising and therefore we have a delicious light and spring-like range of beers for you in store! Cheers to you!

DIPA

Brewery : Poppels
Country : Sweden
Style : DIPA
ABV : 8%
Drink at : 8°C

The Poppels story begins in 2012 in Sweden with fifteen passionate people who want to brew exceptional beers and share them with beer lovers all over the world.

Their very first beer was a Brown Ale, then an American Pale Ale and many beers followed, which are exported further and further away. This is how this beer came to Hopt in France. DIPA by Poppels is an organic beer like all the other Poppels beers and the beer style originates from the American microbreweries in the 90s.

As we know, Americans like to do things in a big way (big pizzas, big milkshakes, big hamburgers), so their beer is too! Extra quantities of malt and more hops, for a more powerful and fuller aroma and alcohol, that's what Poppels' DIPA is all about. It is full of tropical fruit, citrus, caramel and pineapple with an intense bitterness.

For a perfect food pairing :

This is a beer that goes very well with fried chicken, curry or Mexican dishes.

AECHT SCHLENKERLA RAUCHBIER - MARZEN

Brewery : Heller-Bräu Trum
Country : Germany
Style : Rauchbier
ABV : 5,1%
Drink at : 8°C

This is the perfect beer for the barbecue. For once, we are not talking about a refreshing beer that you can always drink, because this is a dark beer that is as smoky as a German sausage..

Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen, brewed by Brauerei Heller, is one of the brewery's specialities, prepared with the famous smoked malts of the Schlenkerla malting plant and sometimes even served straight from the wooden barrels.

Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen has a powerful and original aromatic bouquet, especially with woody and smoky notes. In the mouth, it is again these smoky notes that take over, sometimes reminiscent of bacon, which can be rather confusing. If you like this Rauchbier, you should also try Schlenkerla Rauchbier Weizen!

For a perfect food pairing :

A smoked beer goes very well with smoked or grilled food such as steak, sausage or pork.

RYE IPA

Brewery : Big Mountain
Country : France
Style : Rye IPA
ABV : 5,3%
Drink at : 6°C

The French Haute Savoie, home to beautiful mountains with snow-capped peaks, is also home to the Big Mountain Brewing Company, a French brewery that has been brewing Rye IPA. The company is now unveiling a craft beer in the style of India Pale Ale, brewed with rye malt and hops from the Pacific Northwest.

Once in the glass, it reveals an amber colour with a white head, with aromas of spices, malt, hops and herbs. Balanced and full of intensity, this is a rich beer with spicy flavours such as pepper, with resinous notes of pine, hops and orange peel, for a moderate bitterness. The use of rye malt gives it more roundness, but also a drier finish than the IPAs you might be familiar with.

It's an interesting variation on a beer style you probably already know.

For a perfect food pairing :

The sweet, fruity notes of the style will go well with blue cheese, gorgonzola, or a burger..

SAISON DE DOTTIGNIES

Brewery : De Ranke
Country : Belgium
Style : Saison
ABV : 5,5%
Drink at : 6°C

De Ranke is a Belgian brewery that favours the use of the hop flower (hop cone) instead of compressed hop grains (or pellets)..

Saison de Dottignies comes from this brewery, a top-fermented beer in a style first brewed by the Belgians. This Saison is brewed with a mixture of Challenger, Brewers Gold, Hallertau Mittelfrüh and Styrian Golding hops. When poured into a glass, this beer reveals an amber, cloudy colour with a persistent, fluffy white head.

Full of intensity, with a variety of aromas including hay, flower, bergamot tea, citrus, lemongrass and white pepper. In the mouth, the beer is crisp and refreshing with floral and spicy hop notes, led by citrus aromas and a slight bitterness. The aftertaste is dry, earthy and very refreshing. .

For a perfect food pairing :

The spicy notes of the style will work well with shrimp salad, salmon tartar or fried calamari.

ROCHEFORT TRIPLE EXTRA

Brewery : Rochefort
Country : Belgium
Style : Triple
ABV : 8,1%
Drink at : 8°C

There are only a few Trappist breweries in the whole world. You can find some in America, the Netherlands, England and Italy but most Trappist breweries are of course in Belgium!

This month, we have a great beer in the box from Abbaye Notre Dame de St Rémy in Rochefort, the abbey that has already spoiled us with its Rochefort 6, 8 and 10. Today, we present you with the Triple Extra, a beer that was originally going to be brewed in "limited edition", but whose success was so great that the monks changed their minds.

First brewed in 1920, it is now coming back to life 100 years later. Triple Extra has a golden yellow colour and a creamy white foam, with aromas of spices, malt, hops, bread and honey. Round and warm with herbal and citrus flavours such as orange with a moderate bitterness.

For a perfect food pairing :

The strong spicy and malty notes go very well with a frangipane dessert or apple pie.

PORTUGAL THE BEER

Brewery : Dois Corvos
Country : Portugal
Style : New England Pale Ale
ABV : 5,4%
Drink at : 6°C

In Portugal, it's sunny and warm, so breweries often aim for light and refreshing.

Portugal The Beer was brewed by Dois Corvos for the national Portugal Day (every year on 10 June to commemorate Luís de Camões). It is a New England Pale Ale brewed with the special London Ale III yeast.

The beer has undergone dry-hopping with centennial, azacca and mosaic hops that add delicious fruity notes. Underneath the cloudy yellow colour and white foam we find citrus and hop aromas, with fruity flavours of orange, tangerine and mandarin, with a delicate bitterness. It is a full-bodied, fresh beer reminiscent of sunshine and Iberian beaches!

For a perfect food pairing :

The hop and fruit notes are perfect with shrimp, Thai curry or spicy Indian food.

RAUCHBIER

In our many countries with cold weather, people love the barbecue, both for fun of it and for the food. A few rays of sunshine are enough, even if sometimes the meal has to be moved to the garage or under a roof! Beer and BBQ go great together, but usually people drink lager. However, we have another suggestion: try a smoked beer!

We think of Bamberg in southern Germany, where the tavern Schlenkerla is located. This is where Rauchbier is brewed. Rauchbier is a very special bottom-fermented beer made with malt that has been dried in a beechwood fire, giving it a unique smoky character. It was first tried in 1678 by Johann Wolfgang Heller in a tavern and is still drunk there today.

In 1877, the brewery passed into the hands of Andreas Graser, an unusual brewer with a slight handicap in his arm. He walked somewhat unsteady and somewhat wobbly because of this, which is translated into German as Schlenkern. It was ultimately this name that would remain in the memory as beer drinkers spoke of rinsing their throats in the Schlenkerla, which became the unofficial name of the Bamberg brewery. Drink this Rauchbier with your next BBQ and you will be amazed how this enhances the favours of your food.
