Saint BernardusSt. Bernardus Christmas AleSt. Bernardus Christmas Ale
St Bernardus Christmas Ale is the last beer in date produced by Saint Bernardus. In the style of famous quadruple abbey beers, this exceptional beer uses the same strain of yeast since 1946. Extremely complex, like the no less famous St Bernardus 12, it has finely been spiced and is for sure one of the best Christmas beers.

Therefore, this Belgian beer displays an intense dark colour, topped by a generous and colourful head with an excellent retention. It challenges the nose with a fine complexity of aromas, from notes of grapes to caramel and spices. In the mouth, this complexity intensifies even more with a pleasant sweetness along with flavours of candied fruits and a nice finish sharpened by alcohol.

This exceptional St Bernardus Christmas Ale is a superb Christmas beer, which plays at the same level as other excellent products in terms of complexity of aromas and taste. The most interesting thing to do would be to compare it with the St Bernardus 12 to make your own opinion!

Product #: 46695stars, based on 1 reviewsRegular price: 2.82.8Available from: Saveur BièreCondition: New productsin stock

OmnipolloOmnipollo SelassieOmnipollo Selassie
Omnipollo is renowned for its inventive labels and equally inventive beers, and for the 2016 Beery Christmas the Swedish brewery came up with Selassie, an Imperial Stout brewed with Ethiopian coffee, and vanilla.

A victime of its own success, this true gourmet Stout continues to be brewed even after the Beery Christmas was over. This jet-black brew releases substantial caramel and chocolate scents as well as, unsurprisingly, a big hit of chocolate and vanilla.

The palate is a perfect reproduction of the nose, set in a subtly bitter ensemble just perfect to share with friends.
Product #: 26736stars, based on reviewsRegular price: 6.56.5Available from: Saveur BièreCondition: New productsin stock
HerculeHercule StoutHercule Stout
Hercule Stout is another superb product brewed by the excellent Ezzeloise brewery that can be found on Saveur Bière.

The first beer to claim the title of Belgian Stout, this Belgian craft beer certainly puts forward a strong argument to convince you of its premium quality. Brewed with no added spices or sugar, it can be regarded as one of Belgium's best stouts!

With its magnificent colour of impenetrable black, Hercule Stout develops a creamy beige head with good persistence in the glass.

Light but very pleasant aromas emerge next, oscillating between roasted scents of cocoa and coffee and fruity fragrances of liqueurs. As complex on the nose as it is in the mouth, once on the palate Hercule Stout delivers exceptional flavours very different from the extremely sugary and often very heavy Stouts generally found in Belgium.

Initially very dry but with no sign of its high alcohol content, this beer has a silky texture that literally slides over the palate. It offers roasted flavours of cocoa and espresso, while a delicious bitterness gradually emerges during the tasting, becoming more intense but never dominating the overall character. The finish is absolutely exquisite with very persistent and truly delightful flavours.

With an ABV that sets it apart from the classic English stouts and with taste qualities unusual in a Belgian stout, this Hercule Stout fully lives up to its self-proclaimed title of Belgian Stout! A brew that will rapidly become a classic amongst connoisseurs, and comes highly recommended by the Saveur Bière team.
Product #: 18094stars, based on 3 reviewsRegular price: 44Available from: Saveur BièreCondition: New productsin stock

The tradition of brewing excellent ale is continued by BrewDog. A new player in the brewing arena, it has already earned quite a name for being innovative in its technical know-how and for their adherence to quality. BrewDog has fans all over the world.

Tokyo is a fine example of what BrewDog can brew. Primarily an imperial stout beer, it wears a black robe and a beige head. To the nose, you will get aromas of calvados, candied dates, coffee powder and pear syrup. The taste features touches of fruits, chocolate and malt. There is a distinct flavor of cranberries. The taste of Tokyo is quite intriguing and strong. The beer is thick, concentrated and feels quite syrupy. It has an oily feel on the palate, along with the warmth of alcohol. The aftertaste is long, bitter and has the dash of alcohol. Carbonation is soft.

Tokyo is a prime example of innovation from BrewDog brewery. De MolenDe Molen RasputinDe Molen Rasputin
Rasputin is an Imperial Stout brewed by De Molen in the Netherlands. It is an honour to the most famous character of the Romanov court, Rasputin. It is only brewed once a year. It is thus a limited edition, every bottle is numbered. You can age this stout within 25 years in a cellar. Rasputin could quickly became a vintage beer. It has a very dense body.

It has a very dark brown robe, almost black topped by a persistent light brown head. It contains 10.5 % alcohol; the nose has thus strong liquorish aromas, but you will find aromas of dark fruits, chocolate, caramel and roasted malt. In the mouth, you will find a strong liquorish taste, with notes of coffee and caramel

The finish is powerful with roasted malt flavours and a strong bitterness. The flavours could change during the ageing, depending on the date you will taste it.
Product #: 1999stars, based on reviewsRegular price: 5.65.6Available from: Saveur BièreCondition: New productsin stock
HarviestounOla Dubh 18 ansOla Dubh 18 ans
This time the Harviestoun Brewery has used casks from 18-year-old Highland Park to age the beer before bottling, hence its full name of Ola Dubh Special Reserve 18.

This whisky is rated one of the best from the Highland Park distillery and has been described as the best spirit in the world by F. Paul Pacult, the famous wine, beer and whisky journalist.

As for the beer itself, its uniformly black colourlets in no light, concealing the full power of the aromas of this renowned whisky.
The nose, like that of its "little sisters", presents verypeaty, smoky notes, but also gives clear indications that this version will be influenced to a far greater extent by the whisky.
In the mouth, the impression given by the nose is confirmed, the whisky is present and is there to stay. Naturally it is accompanied by a peatiness together with the hints ofvanilla that are a sign it has been aged in oak casks.

In this version the whisky occupies all the space and displays all the character and quality of the Highland Park distillery. A brew for true whisky connoisseurs and fans of cask-matured beers.

Other versions to try are Ola Dubh 12 and Ola Dubh 16!
Product #: 45624stars, based on 4 reviewsRegular price: 7.77.7Available from: Saveur BièreCondition: New productsin stock

The nose is awash with bitter espresso and warm vanilla notes, with a creeping smokiness just below the surface. This sumptuous vanilla coffee quality is echoed on the smooth palate, with a sublime bitterness and spreading alcohol note that will stick with you into the new year…

The brewery: They say that necessity is the mother of invention, and Estonia's Sori Brewing is born out the necessity to brew great beer. Faced by somewhat restrictive laws on the production and sale of alcohol in their native Finland, Pyry and Heikki, moved across the border to Talinn, Estonia to set up their crowd-funded business in an abandoned soviet-era factory. Their decision to relocate really paid off, and these rising stars of European Craft Brewing are really giving flight to their inventiveness, brewing serious beer for not so serious people. A welcome return to Beery Christmas after an excellent entry in 2016, this year sorry teamed up with Russia's AF Brew, an inventive craft brewery from St Petersbrug.

The style: A fantastic example of evolution worthy of Darwin himself, Baltic Porters form one branch of the Porter family tree. The style originated in the 18th Century in the Baltic states like Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, as well as well as being particularly popular with the Russian royal family – who gave use the term Imperial Stouts and Porters. They are characterised by a smooth, full body, and a more pronounced malty sweetness than classic Porter. They also offer a higher alcohol content backed by rich candied stone fruit and toffee flavours.

Food pairings: Rich, sweet and seductively smoky, Midsummer Melancholy is destined for dessert!
