A dark Abbey ale that is one of the classic beers of Belgium! Not to be missed!
A great-tasting beer, la Saint Bernardus Pater 6 is now the gold standard among so-called Belgian ‘Abbey’ beers.
Yet ‘Saint Bernardus’ beers have never been brewed in an Abbey, let alone by monks.
However, the recipe was used by monks from the St. Sixtus Cistercian Abbey that now produces Westvleteren Trappist ales, considered to be the best, but rarest of Trappist ales.
La Saint Bernardus Pater 6 is a dark, top-fermenting beer that develops a dark colour and abundant head in the glass.
It releases malty aromas registering a powerful, fruity sensation on the nose, with accompanying spicy notes. On the palate, flavours of malt, which are also very fruity can be detected.
These are, on the other hand, followed by a bitterness that is relatively powerful for dark ale, revealing the presence of hops.
