The rococo and baroque style abbey at Andechs in Bavaria is a pilgrimage for beer lovers. Their Andechser Export Dunkel is a Munich Dunkel Lager-style beer.
It pours a deep chestnut colour with a compact white head. The aroma is a mix of toasted malts, nuts and herbs.
The toasted malt theme carries over to the taste, giving a coffee flavour and an agreeable bitterness. There are also prunes, raisins, spice, cocoa, nuts and chestnut notes to be found. The carbonation is moderate and the finish dry and bitter.
