Beery Christmas Day 3 : Galibot Panic at Munich
Galibot, a German made in France
Forbach, a small French town in Moselle in the Grand Est region, is home to about 21,000 inhabitants. And to satisfy all these inhabitants, three friends, Charly, Thomas and Alexandre had the idea to found their brewery. Its name? Galibot!
Lovers of good craft beers, our three founders started with their own knowledge. On the one hand, Thomas and Charly already had the brewery "Tom et Charly" specialized in the brewing of sour beers, acidulous and aged in barrels. We found there for example Brett or Barleywine. On the other side, Alexandre had the Schoenecker Brau, a microbrewery specialized in lager, bottom fermentation which also includes many styles such as pils, helles or schwarzbier.
Established on the old mining sites of Lorraine, the microbrewery Galibot bears its name in reference to the young men employed in the underground workings of the coal mines. It is a brewery that puts forward the values, the know-how and the heritage of its region, while being inspired by this culture to conceive its recipes.
Together, they gather their knowledge in order to propose a range of worked and balanced beers, while making a focus on the manufacture of beers of low and mixed fermentation. Precision, patience and know-how are undeniably necessary for the good realization of these brews, especially since they are made through a traditional brewing method, inspired by their German neighbors.
At Galibot, you will be able to taste mainly lagers, beers of low fermentation, but much more tasty than the industrial ones of the supermarket. More cereal and hoppy, it often uses a little extra kick like purple corn or rye bread. Beyond that, it also draws a lot of inspiration from the world to go in the original with for example a bread beer, conceived with the Shwalback brothers, best workers of France native of their region, or the Princess Inca which is inspired by the Peruvian drink Chicha Morada.
Today, the Galibot brewery masters a wide range of products, while working with complex processes, and this is what seduced us to have them by our side for the tenth edition of our Beery Christmas advent calendar.
Panic at Munich, a German with a French touch
Panic at Munich from the Galibot brewery is a Munich Dunkel style beer, which won a gold medal at the international competition in Lyon. This style has the particularity to be a brown beer of low fermentation, brewed in Munich.
With Panic at Munich, you will be faced with a revisit of this typical German format, in the form of a dark mahogany colored beer, which owes its color to the use of roasted malts, topped with a thick beige fluffy head.
As you approach the nose of your glass, you will smell greedy aromas of toasted malt, toasted bread, hazelnut, caramel, with a touch of dried fruits.
On the palate, it is relatively complex and smooth, with notes of bread, toast, coffee, chocolate and caramel, for a moderate bitterness that comes from hops, which allows to raise the whole and make the taste buds vibrate.
It is a beer to be enjoyed at a temperature of 8°C in a tulip glass, with a pulled pork burger.
