Beery Christmas Jour 16 : Siren Desert Flame Red IPA
Siren Brewery
While they were talking about world-renowned British breweries such as Thornbridge, Magic Rock or Brewdog, Siren Craft Brew has been able to gradually establish itself in the brewing landscape to the delight of craft beer lovers. If it took much longer than they thought to proceed with the installation of their brewery, it was in 2013 that it saw the light of day, to brew its first recipe. In their brews, there is boldness, no compromise and magic! Through the absence of compromise, the brewery insists on brewing with the best ingredients and it doesn't matter if it costs more! The proof is in their Broken Dream stout which was brewed with a very large dose of coffee, carefully selected in the company of experts in the field. In any case, it breathes generosity and it makes you want to drink it! If in 2013 the microbrewery has just arrived, it already has many ideas in mind, such as brewing an anniversary beer, another aged in 7 different oak barrels, or a stout with mealworms. For the record, the latter was born and is called Wormhole.
Over time, Siren Craft Brewery will continue to brew their beers with passion, both styles like barleywines and barrel aging. They love complexity, the art of making a good beer that will delight the taste buds of the most discerning connoisseurs for sure! If you're one of them, you'll love to know that they are also behind the International Rainbow Project, an organization that brings together breweries from around the world to mix know-how and create avant-garde beers. But that's not all, as they are also behind Project Barista, which proposes to discover the possibilities between beer and coffee. With all of this, it's no wonder Siren Craft Brew is behind 60 unique beers released in 2018. Currently, they have 8 permanent, flavorful, and relatively "classic" beers so that craft beer beginners can find their way around easily, without the more experienced not wanting to dabble again and again.
The taste of Siren Red IPA
The mermaid makes you think of bewitchment, so it's no wonder you're looking at such a classy can! Even if after all, it is more the content than the container that will interest us. When we take a quick look at the can, we can see that it is a Red IPA, brewed with a multitude of rich specialty malts, as well as American Simcoe, Amarillo and Eclipse hops that will help balance the bitterness, the resinous pine as well as the slightly pungent orange notes.
To go into a little more detail, the Red IPA style is very popular with Siren Brewery as it offers the perfect and unique opportunity to blend a richer malt base with vibrant fruity hops. When the brewery talks about their Red IPA, it's to tell us that they had the idea of having a base that was largely cookie driven, accompanied by a range of citrus and tropical fruit hops. While that translates to "Red IPA," the Siren Red IPA you have in your Beery Christmas advent calendar isn't a red beer as you'd expect, like a kriek or a Leffe Ruby, for example. It's originally taken from the American Amber Ale which has been reworked over time, adding a nice dose of malt to give it texture as well as a nice biscuity edge to go along with the fruity and bitter notes provided by the hops. A great example of a gourmet beer, to be enjoyed at a temperature of 8°C with a rib steak and French fries.
