Beery Christmas Jour 18 : Vocation Northern Light
Vocation Brewery
The origins of Vocation
Having a vocation is beautiful! What is even more beautiful is to be able to live from it! Among the many English breweries that exist, there is one that has made its vocation a daydream, to the point of giving the name Vocation to its brewery. Vocation Brewery is convinced of it, beer is their hobby and they do it damn well! When they started, the establishment was no bigger than a chicken coop (in the brewery's own words), whereas today it's a global craft beer brand with over 100 employees. When there's a will, anything is possible!
A committed brewery
This is a brewery with great principles that makes it a point of honor to work ethically, with total integrity, promoting fair and equitable compensation with comfortable working conditions. They make sure that everyone involved, both within the company and in the supply chain, does not infringe on anyone's freedoms. Vocation Brewery goes even further and talks about a warning against modern slavery, both on ingredients and brewing equipment. Many people are unaware of it, but modern slavery would currently represent 3 out of every 1,000 people in the world, whether it be for human trafficking, debt bondage, or forced domestic labor.
Quality beer
Now that you know a little more about the microbrewery itself, what about their beers? Obviously, if this craft brewery is in our Beery Christmas Advent Calendar, it's because they have to prove themselves! Their beers are sold all over the world and you can also taste them directly in their taproom in the north of England. They are brewed with local ingredients, well, as much as possible, although they sometimes go to the EU and the United States to get them. Vocation Brewery likes to remind us that they brew references rather than trends, with the desire to enjoy and not to do business to the maximum.
Vocation - Northern Light
For the tenth edition of the Beery Christmas advent calendar, the British brewery Vocation has started brewing a special edition beer. Its name? Northern Light. A neat design that reminds us of winter and Christmas with its deer and snowy mountains, Vocation will tell you the story of a black beer with a coconut & marshmallow stout style. The name alone calls for greed and curiosity.
When poured into a glass, this beer reveals an opaque black color topped by a generous and persistent beige head. Powerful and soft at the same time, it has an oily texture for aromas of marshmallow, coconut, caramel, milk chocolate, coffee shake or maple syrup. Full of intensity, it warms the palate with its full body and satisfies the taste buds with its flavors of marshmallow, coconut and maple syrup as the Canadians say.
Soft with a low carbonation (that's the bubbles), it's typically the kind of beer that can be enjoyed by the fire when it's snowing, or while waiting for Santa Claus, but in this case it would be better to turn off the fireplace. For its tasting, favour a temperature of 10 to 12°C, or even more if you wish, in order to perceive at best all the characteristics that it can offer. Accompany your beer with a game or a dessert like a white lady or a chocolate fondant.
ALCOHOL ABUSE IS DANGEROUS FOR YOUR HEALTH! PLEASE CONSUME IN MODERATION.
