Beery Christmas Jour 22 : Poppels - Pine Apple
The story of Poppels Bryggeri
Let's go back to where it all started on December 1st: Sweden! Not at Omnipollo, but at Poppels Bryggeri! This microbrewery laid its foundations in 2012 with no less than 15 beer lovers, who joined together to realize a common dream, that of spreading the love of craft beer around the world. Now that's a great life goal! That love began to see the light of day in December 2012 with Brown Ale, followed by an American Pale Ale in May 2013, which is actually the brewery's best-selling beer today.
Over time, the success is there and 2014 will mark the second expansion of the brewery in Mölnlycke, which will reach a maximum capacity of 350,000 liters. The following year in 2015, Poppels will start exporting to its neighboring country, Norway, which will generate huge sales and that again will have to keep up with the production rate, hence the need to move to a new brewery in Jonsered's Fabriker. The new location offered a restaurant, bar and a small store, but it was also a turning point for the brewery, as Poppels was going to brew organically from then on. That same year, the Swedish brewery will distribute its beers in bars and restaurants beyond Gothenburg, which is quite a step forward!
This is followed by the brewing of its Session Pale Ale in March 2017 or its beer ice cream in 2019, consisting of organic vanilla ice cream with triple malt from Poppels Bryggeri. In 2020 the Swedish brewery opens the doors of its restaurant Poppel's Beer&Food with a unique concept that puts its menu at the service of its beers, to have the perfect food pairing. This year, in 2022, Poppels will open a unique location in the center of Gothenburg, which will be the world's largest oak cask Pilsner brewery, where beer is pumped directly from the fermentation tank to the serving tank. This year will also be marked by the presence of Poppels in our Beery Christmas advent calendar.
Pine Apple Tasting by Poppels
Pine Apple, it doesn't hide much for those who know the translation of this name: Pineapple! Lovers of this delicious and juicy fruit, you will be served! The Poppels craft brewery is famous for its beers of this kind, and they don't hesitate to give it their all in terms of aromatics! When it is poured into a glass, we see a straw yellow color topped by a white foam that stands.
The carbonation is moderate, we see fine bubbles rising to the surface. The texture is oily, it clings to the glass more than if the texture was watery. Approach your nose close to the glass and you will discover aromas of tropical fruits, pineapple, mango, peach, lychee, guava and orange zest. On the palate, you will find fresh and greedy flavors of tropical fruits and pineapple, with bitter tones. It is a very accessible beer, provided that you appreciate pineapple. It should be drunk at a temperature of 6°C, with a fromage blanc or shrimps.
ALCOHOL ABUSE IS DANGEROUS FOR YOUR HEALTH! PLEASE CONSUME WITH MODERATION.
